My Exercise In Futility

According to web reports everywhere, it appears that October will be the month of the BlackBerry. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile all have different versions of the BlackBerry coming out, each with different features to appeal to all users. Here’s a quick list of what should be available for ‘CrackBerry’ addicts everywhere come October.

AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold (9000) - This is the BlackBerry I’m waiting for. The release date for this particular model has been pushed several times, but according to internal AT&T memos, I think October is finally it.

T-Mobile’s BlackBerry KickStart (8220) - This is a combination flip phone and BlackBerry. I think this was a great idea. One of the things I miss about regular phones (non-smartphones) is the flip feature. My only hang up with this phone is that it’s a BlackBerry pearl with a flip, so no full size keyboard.

Verizon’s BlackBerry Thunder (9500) – I think this is the worst idea BlackBerry has had for a new model. This BlackBerry is supposed to be RIM’s answer to the iPhone. I don’t even like the Pearl models that have a condensed keyboard – now you want to throw a touchscreen BlackBerry at me? I dont’ like it.

New cell phone consumers obviously have a lot to choose from. Those of us who are already locked into one particular carrier really don’t have a choice other than to upgrade or not.

We get to find out who ‘The Mole’ is tonight at 10:00 P.M. on ABC. I’m very excited. I think it’s Nicole. I have no basis for my guess other than just a simple gut feeling. I first suspected Nicole when her mother came to visit. She was adamant about leaving. But then during the quiz, she ’suddenly changed her mind.’

As you will see tonight, they will reveal clues that have been given throughout the series that would have helped determine who the mole was. I looked for the clues the first couple of shows, but I didn’t really see anything. I decided to stop looking after the third show because I was missing all of the actual action of the program.

I’m not certain which new device I should purchase. The new iPhone will be ready as soon as July 11th and only costs $199 for the same size I currently have. The BlackBerry Bold will not be released for another month and it’s projected to cost about $399 with a new 2 year agreement.

I’ll get more day-to-day use from the BlackBerry, but I could attempt to be an early adopter at work and see how well the enterprise data plan is actually supposed to work for the new iPhones. Is support really as good as they boast?

Or, I could be smart and tell both those damned companies to go to hell, quit fuckin’ with us all – and save my pennies for another debt reduction go ’round.
