To Comeback Or Not To Comeback, That Is The Question

Lately, there seems to be a lot of old things trying to be new again, aside from my virginity that is. Some of them should have worked out, others shouldn’t have even tried. Here’s what I have to say about three examples.
New Kids On The Block - I heard them on “The View” today. Horrible! Their new single titled ‘Single’ sucked, their dance moves are from the ’80′s, and their voices are cracking like they are just now going through puberty. I don’t anticipate a tour, a second comeback album for NKOTB, nor do I anticipate any screaming girls throwing themselves at the feet of this tired, old boy band. I can hear them proclaiming, “We were the first boy band” just as often as Janice Dickinson proclaims, “I’m the world’s first supermodel… deal with it!”
90210 - The verdict is still out on this one. I just finished watching the two hour series premiere, and I can’t decide if it was over-the-top cheesy or if it was the perfect setup for a ton of old fashioned Beverly Hills 90210 drama. The producers of the show were smart, though. They brought back three old characters (Brenda, Kelly, and Nate from The Peach Pit) while making reference to a couple of others. I guess the best test of whether it did well or not is to ask myself, “Would I watch the show next week?” So far, I would have to answer yes.
The Bionic Woman - I was really hoping that this show would return for a sophomore season, but it didn’t. The producers of this show were not smart; their were no returning characters or references to the original series. Using the same name for the lead character doesn’t count. They attempted to totally re-invent Jamie Summers, give her a sister, and made her an emotional wreck. Big mistake! But, I think there was an even bigger faux pas made on their part – they didn’t keep the original bionic sound effect. I think they would have captured a much bigger audience straight off had they incorporated that into the show from the series premiere.
All of these comebacks, remakes, or want not make me think of the infinite monkey theorem. What do you think… have we reached infinity yet?
