Map My Run

I’ve been catching up on my exercise this week. I made my plan and modified it only slightly. I went to the gym yesterday, and I did run today, but I did not attend a group class. My friend, Tom, was supposed to come here today to pick up a bag he left earlier in the week. He told me he was going to run here from his apartment. Instead, I asked if he would meet me in Central Park and run with me.

I rode the subway to the 86th St station and I started running the large loop. Tom and I were using Loopt to locate each other once we were in the park. The problem with Loopt is that it doesn’t work in real-time. I had run about a mile before Tom and I figured we were running in opposite directions. Another problem was that I couldn’t mark a stop and end point to keep track of how far I had run.

Instead, I found a Google-based website titled Map My Run that allows one to mark points on the map and determine how far you have run. I created a profile for the site because there are a lot of other free, useful tools that the site provides such as a running log and the ability to share your running routes with friends.
